HistoryNorth Miami's PAL, was incorporated in 1997 with business and civic leaders, educators, and citizens of the North Miami Dade community. The members recognized a need for supervised after school programs specifically directed towards middle and high school youth. They also recognized a need for positive interaction between the Police Department and the youth of the community. With careful planning and much collaboration the North Miami Police Athletic League (PAL) program, a not-for-profit organization, was born. The main objective of the PAL program is to meet the needs of our youth through a variety of after school atheltic and educational programs utilizing positive role models such as police officers, educators, and community volunteers in informal settings other than the structured classroom environment. Some of these programs inclued basketball, softball, track and field, hockey and chess. The North Miami PAL is constantly striving to expand upon its programs to enhance educational opportunities for the at-risk youth of our community. In keeping with this goal, we have recently implemented an after school tutorial program. The purpose of this program is to better prepare our students in the areas of reading, english and math. We believe, that through our efforts, we'll hold true to our slogan. "Filling Playgrounds, Not Prisons". By: Profound Dezigns and Yworksfx |
